Women's Studies Program
Social Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University

The Women's Studies Program was started as a special CUSRI program in 1981 as an academic program designed to carry out research about women in Thailand. It focuses on the impact of socio-economic changes on their status and on women's responses. The research has been both policy and action oriented and designed to contribute to base-line data creation. Women are the target group but are not considered in isolation. The position of women within Thai society has been viewed in terms of gender relations. A database on women's issues including gender statistics and annotated bibliographies was prepared jointly with the Thailand National Commission on Women's Affairs
